Michel Bordage: REVE D'ENFANCE

John Wilson – Metal Sculpture and Functional Art | Cool Material
By Wylo John Wilsons’s metal sculptures are the kind of sculpture we actually like, as opposed to the kind that features the head of a barbie doll stuck on a trident and hailed as a post-modern masterpiece. Wilson combines the detritus of automotive transport–old road signs, tailgates, camshafts–and makes them into cool pieces of furniture that are as functional as they are easy on the eyes. They’ve got a classic sensibility, with many of the pieces featuring parts from vintage cars, each with that patina that makes them interesting. Powder-coated in bright colors, they’re a great [suite...]

Art in Chains: Fine Art Sculpture Goes Heavy Metal : WebUrbanist
By Marc in Architecture & Design, Guerilla Action & Art, Urban & Street Art Chains are seldom used for any higher purpose than securing a bike against a railing, except in these cases, where artists have used their imaginations and metalworking skill to come up with incredibly creative pieces of urban art. These are some of the best examples of chain art you’ll find: (Images via santamonicacloseup, odt, metalwokswanaka, godzilla8james, metropolismag, puddinspictures) Giant sculptures don’t have to be carved out of stone, or sculpted out of giant chunks of ore. Sprouting Soil & Recycled Metal Sculptures By Mathilde Roussel ...
Images: Mathilde Roussel-Giraudy Provocative environmental art can range from monumental earthworks to simpler but equally elegant concoctions, like this collection of living sculptures by New York-based French artist Mathilde Roussel-Giraudy. Sprouting green from their soil-and-recycled-metal bodies, they quietly remind us that we are literally made, grow and dissolve into nature's bounty. Titled ça pousse! (it's growing!), Roussel-Giraudy's earthy work derives from her rural roots in France and a childhood steeped in the values of preservation, traditions and connection with the land. [suite...]

Sheet Metal Business Cards Transform Into Unique Sculptures
If you want to make sure people don’t forget your name or the service you provide, give them business cards that double as art. This series of cards transforms into bizarre, yet awesome sculptures. The cards seem to chronicle the adventures of some dude with a long neck and no head as rides a bike, works out, goes fishing from an easy chair, recovers from a broken leg, rides a ski lift over a dreamscape, explores distant galaxies with an intergalactic golf ball, baby carriage and pooper-scooper, hunts giant weeds with a machete, or boringly sits in an office. Metallic Mini-Workers - The Sam Buxton 3D Metal Sculpture Business ...
These fold-out business cards by Sam Buxton are revolutionary to the concept of self-promotion. As every industry becomes more and more competitive, the business card has gone from a simple informative piece to an epic representation of who a person is. This is something that Sam Buxton not only recognizes, but capitalizes on. The cards begin as a standard flat piece of sheet metal, then fold out (similar to origami) to create a mini scene with a worker and workspace. The paper-free idea dawned on Sam Buxton while working on a chemical milling process in the electronics [suite...]

When used in conjunction with coloured crystal, metallic salts or oxides, a glass sculpture, crystal ornament or crystal vase made by the pate de verre process is an outstanding and dazzling work of art. The great advantage to using this glass making technique over other glass manufacturing processes is the ability for precise placement of particular colours in the mould before firing. In traditional French pate de verre, the artist mixed crushed glass with enamels or paint to form a paste that was carefully placed in a mould and then fired. Other ways of filling the mould with coloured glass [suite...]

Entre l’art et le design, la frontière est parfois très mince, Jean-Marie Massaud a utilisé cet interface sensible pour concevoir ce fauteuil hors normes. City of Minneapolis Public Drinking Fountain Sculpture Midtown ...
This one of a kind sculptural fountain celebrates and honors water as the foundation of life. The imagery encourages exploration into Minnesota’s rich geology and fosters civic dialogue regarding water conservation and the notion of public ownership of water. We chose a classical fountain design because of its history as an inclusive gathering place. Using cast metal in the place of free flowing water, we hope to highlight the fact that water is a limited resource to be conserved and shared as a privilege. Ornate decoration, rock formations and cast metal details echo the Midwest grotto [suite...]

Sculpteur de Métal" /> © Créations Stéphane Ducatteau The Cadre chair The purist geometry of French sculptor/designer/artisan Stéphane Ducatteau’s limited edition contemporary furniture seems sculpted from rare exotic woods, wenge or iroko, perhaps. The surprise: From a sleekly elegant dining table to an irresistible Petit Train, his ebony-toned pieces, characterized by swooping curves, boxy squares or beam-like rectangles, are made of steel. “People have to touch them to realize it,” agrees the designer, a civil engineer who spent five years working at an architectural firm while [suite...]

"Credit goes to the man who is actually in the arena"…T. Roosevelt This morning I installed the terminus of the bronze railing at the Lynden Sculpture Garden. As you can see, the terminus is highly polished, and will need a few weeks to achieve the patina of the other four panels, which were installed earlier this year. When the patina reaches uniformity, I will enlist photographer George Lottermoser to use his unique eye to capture this railing in ways only he can achieve. Hopefully, the autumn colors will be in all their glory at that time to serve as a fine backdrop. A few notes as to [suite...]

Ralph Koltai, from theatre designer to sculptor Wednesday, 22 September 2010 09:16 Written by Jasper Rees Theatre designers rarely make a name for themselves. They have to queue up for applause behind the writer, the director and the cast. It’s no surprise that they often seek creative control by working outside the box.
